iCreate (International Centre for Entrepreneurship and Technology), India’s leading innovation-based start-up incubator, is hosting the 5-day Bootcamp of India’s largest EV innovation challenge, EVangelise ’22. The event from November 7–11 is showcasing solutions from 40 innovators from across India to real world challenges in the EV industry in the areas of battery safety and EV infrastructure.
Commenting on the bootcamp, Avinash Punekar, CEO of iCreate, said, “iCreate was established with the vision of creating an ‘idea to scale’ model of supporting breakthrough innovators in India. EVangelise ’22 leverages this model to accelerate India’s journey in developing sustainable transportation solutions by harnessing the potential of EV innovators in the industry. The over 1,100 applications to EVangelise ’22 is a testament to the innovation potential of India to solve real-world problems through the lens of cost-effectiveness and domestic viability. Supported by the leading government bodies and industry leaders, the EVangelize ’22 bootcamp is the largest gathering of EV innovators from every corner of the country.”
With an increase of almost 38% from last year, EVangelise ’22 has received a total of 1,160 applications from 23 states and UTs in India. Out of the 40 teams that are taking part in the bootcamp, 20 will move forward to intensive testing and development ahead of the final pitching round and finale, to be held on December 19 and 20, 2022.
The bootcamp also saw participation from top industry players, including Sona Comstar, Mahindra Logistics, Joy e bike, Svitch Bike, Ruby Bus Pvt Ltd, TUV Rheinland, Mathworks, Inevitable Electronics Pvt Ltd., BGAUSS, etc. who interacted and engaged with the start-ups to explore synergies with them.
One of the goals of EVangelise is to establish partnerships among early-stage startups, students, institutions, and EV enthusiasts with the Indian manufacturing industry. Such synergies are aimed at creating access to mentorship, market needs, and investment opportunities that are critical for innovations to scale. The top three winners will receive cash awards of INR 10 lakh, INR 7.5 lakh, and INR 5 lakh, and up to INR 1.5 crore in incubation support. Also, three selected teams in each category will receive consolation prizes of INR 3 lakh.
Earlier in June 2022, iCreate announced EVangelise ’22, in partnership with Startup India and the CII – CoE for Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Start-ups (CII-CIES) with the aim to solve real worldchallenges in the EV industry. The challenge brings together some of the most prominent industry players, offering their mentorship support and strategic partnerships to the applying innovators.
