COLORS’ recently launched show ‘Doree’ has shed light on girl-child abandonment by tracing the tale of Ganga Prasad’s foster daughter Doree, who challenges patriarchal norms. Set in Varanasi, the thought-provoking drama revolves around the six-year-old resilient girl standing up against the regressive mindset of Kailashi Devi Thakur, a matriarch who owns the biggest handloom empire in Varanasi and holds stern control over the Thakur household. Starring Sudhaa Chandran as Kailashi Devi Thakur, Amar Upadhyay as Ganga Prasad, and Mahi Bhanushali as Doree, the story is garnering love for showcasing the heartfelt bond of a doting father and resilient daughter and sparking a conversation about ‘chhotisoch’ against girl child.
In its current storyline, Doree’s biological mother, Mansi is certain that her abandoned daughter is alive. On the other hand, Doree has woven big dream for her foster father Ganga Prasad of becoming a talented weaver of Bunkar community and get credit for his unique saree design against Kailashi Devi’s wishes. While Ganga wants the best of everything for Doree, she wants her father’s skill as a weaver to be recognised. Against the cunning intentions of Kailashi Devi, will Doree’s resilience earn her father the much-deserved appreciation? Watch this endearing duo of father and daughter on ‘Doree’ airing daily at 9:00 pm only on COLORS.
Sharing his thoughts on promoting the show in Ahmedabad, Amar Upadhyay says,“Ahmedabad is my birthplace, and visiting it for Doree, a show that is really close to my heart feels incredible. I want to thank the people of this beautiful city for welcoming the entire team of Doree with great warmth. Going beyond just entertainment, the show not only addresses girl child abandonment but also depicts a beautiful father daughter bond. I’m grateful to essay the role of a doting father who is committed to ensuring a good life for his daughter. I can’t thank the audience enough for embracing me as Ganga Prasad and I hope that they keep showering their love to our show.”
Talking about her visit to Ahmedabad, Mahi Bhanushali says,“This is my first visit to Ahmedabad. I’m having a lot of fun exploring all the amazing things here and meeting new people while talking about Doree. I want to thank everyone here for appreciating my performance as Doree, a protective daughter who can go to any extent for her father.”
