1. Tell us about your role in Shiv Shakti – Tap Tyag Tandav?
A. Daksh is the first ruler of the newly formed earth and a Manas-putra of Brahma. He is the maternal grandfather of all Devtas and Asurs. Even though he is a religious ruler who does not accept injustice, he harbours animosity against Shiv because he severed Brahma’s fifth head. The saga captures Daksh’s enmity against Shiv and how the former turns into a Shiv bhakt. Like any character, Daksh has his own motivations, fears, and vulnerabilities.
2. Why did you choose to play this character?
A. I chose to play Daksh in Shiv Shakti – Tap Tyag Tandav because I found his complexity, dilemma and journey quite intriguing. Daksh has many layers to his personage with a mix of both positive and negative traits, that compelled me to portray this character.
3. How did you prepare for the role of Daksh?
A. I extensively researched his narrative in our mythology and studied how he has been interpreted. I also worked closely with the show’s creative team to understand their vision for the character and worked on shaping my portrayal accordingly. The makers have held several workshops which helped me build my approach to embodying Daksh.
4. Did you encounter any difficulties while playing Daksh in Shiv Shakti – Tap Tyag Tandav
A. Playing Daksh in Shiv Shakti is indeed challenging because there is a certain austerity to it. The body language, voice modulation and presence of this character need to be perfect. The portrayal requires me to delve into the depths of his complex emotions and motives.
5. How did you approach humanizing Daksh’s character in Shiv Shakti Tap Tyag Tandav, despite his negative traits?
A. Humanizing Daksh’s character in Shiv Shakti – Tap Tyag Tandav had its own set of challenges as the character is etched in the minds of our audiences. I have focused on depicting his inner conflicts, vulnerabilities, and his rivalry with Shiv. It’s easy for the audience to sympathise with the lead character who’s doing everything right, but it’s the flawed character that have a remarkable story arc.
6. How is Shiv Shakti – Tap Tyag Tandav different from previously showcased shows based on the life of Lord Shiva?
A. In addition to the remarkable production value, such as graphics, sets, costumes, and more, what will truly set apart Shiv Shakti – Tap Tyag Tandav is its portrayal of the universe’s first love story and the unwavering power of devotion amidst constant uncertainty. This exceptional show will delve into a timeless love saga of Lord Shiv and Goddess Parvati that transcends all other emotions.
