Gujarat based businessman Vaibhav Praveen Shah had approached the Family court in 2018 for declaring his current marriage void with Mumbai based nutritionist Sheetal Yadav. The matter was listed for cross examination of Vaibhav who has been evading from the proceedings since long, which has been filed by himself, probably because he will soon be subject to some tough questions.
The businessman in 2016 had aided Sheetal Yadav by providing for lawyers and legal advice, relying on which the previous marriage of Sheetal Yadav was dissolved as per customary practices. After the relationship turned sour, the businessman has reneged from this position and has alleged that he had no knowledge of there being no court divorce decree, which was only obtained in the month of July, while Vaibhav had married Sheetal 3 months prior to the date of the court order. The true picture came to light only when WhatsApp conversations evidencing that he had the full knowledge of Ms. Yadav’s previous customary divorce, followed by the court order, and it was upon his own insistence that the duo agreed to get married before the court order was obtained, by stating that his father was not keeping well and he wanted to start a family soon. Further evidence has also been put before the Family
Court evidencing that Vaibhav has been polyamorous during his marriage with Sheetal Yadav, and used to assault her severely when she questioned him about his illicit relationships. Sheetal’s family claims that she had lost about 20 kgs when she finally decided to leave Vaibhav’s house after she was starved, abused and assaulted by Vaibhav Shah and his family.
After multiple episodes of cruelty, torture and mental harassment, several criminal proceedings are pending against Vaibhav Shah. What is hilarious is that Vaibhav Shah has married his own lawyer Shivani Purohit, who is currently fighting the case filed by him against his current wife. It is rather difficult to state who the current wife is but this seems more like history repeating itself. It is also reported that Vaibhav Shah has two kids from his current relationship with Shivani Purohit.
Senior Delhi based lawyer Shantanu Derhgawen along with Advocate Sushila Rami were present in the courtroom and alleged that Vaibhav is a habitual offender and has married again, despite the current marriage with Sheetal being valid in the eyes of the law. There have been several cases across the state where men marry women during the pendency of the women’s divorce, support the women financial during such proceedings, and then challenge their own marriage when the relationship goes sour. This is a classic case which should nudge the legislators to have a second look at the law of the land which allow such cruelty against women and leave them financially and emotionally drained.
