AHMEDABAD: The 53rd leader of the Dawoodi Bohra community, His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin delivered a sermon at Qutbi Masjid in the Astodia area to commemorate the death anniversary of the 32nd Dai Syedna Qutubkhan Qutbuddin, which falls this year on the 8th of January. Buried in Mazar-e-Qutbi, Saraspur, Syedna Qutbuddin is greatly revered by the community in Ahmedabad and across the world.
In his sermon, Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin recounted the noble virtues of Syedna Qutubkhan Qutbuddin and how he guided the community to stay rooted in its faith.
While addressing the approximately 35,000 community members who gathered in Ahmedabad from across the world to observe this occasion, Syedna counselled them to inculcate the best characteristics, particularly meeting and serving people with a pure heart.
Encouraging community members of all ages to memorise the Holy Quran, Syedna shared that 109 Dawoodi Bohras in Ahmedabad have memorised the entire Quran.
In the sermon, Syedna narrated the emotive incident of Syedna Qutubkhan Qutbuddin’s martyrdom in Ahmedabad at Karanj on the bank of the Sabarmati River.
Syedna arrived in Ahmedabad from Nagpur on 6th January. During his brief visit to the city, Syedna paid respects at the mausoleum of Syedna Qutubkhan Qutbuddin and the other Dais buried here, and, as his usual practice, met with community members to enquire after their wellbeing.
For centuries, the Dawoodi Bohra community has been an active and integral part of Ahmedabad’s socio-cultural and economic landscape. With over 8000 members currently residing in several areas of Ahmedabad such as Jamalpur, Vatva, Kalupur, Khanpur, Paldi, Navrangpura & and Gandhinagar, the Dawoodi Bohras play a significant role in the city and Gujarat’s business community, contributing to its vibrant entrepreneurial spirit and economic growth. Community members in Ahmedabad regularly engage in cleanup and waste management drives and undertake various food and nutrition programs to support the less fortunate in the city.
