The inaugural ceremony of the Ahmedabad International Literature Festival (AILF) opened on a vibrant note with a traditional Ganesh Vandana performed by the students of the Sudha Institute of Odissi, led by P. Sudharani. The performance set a graceful tone for the morning, marking the beginning of a weekend dedicated to art, literature, and culture.
The ceremony was graced by several eminent guests including Festival Director Umashankar Yadav, Manoj Aggarwal IAS Gujarat Cadre, Special Commissioner of Delhi Police Ajay Chaudhari IPS, Sahitya Akademi and Gyanpeeth Award recipient Shree Raghuveer Chaudhari, acclaimed costume designer for bollywood Pia Benegal, and actor-producer JD Majethia. The dignitaries came together to light the ceremonial lamp, symbolizing the start of the festival’s edition.
Following the lamp lighting, the guests addressed the audience with words of reflection and inspiration. JD Majethia spoke about his journey in television, recalling how *Sarabhai vs Sarabhai* was not an instant success when it first aired as a weekly show. He emphasized the importance of consistency and visibility in building a lasting connection with audiences. Pia Benegal and other speakers also shared their insights on storytelling, creativity, and the evolving role of literature and art in society.
The highlight of the morning was the grand premiere of the trailer of *Drop Out*, showcased for the first time ever on the AILF stage. The moment brought together the dignitaries and the film’s creative team: producer Umashankar Yadav, director Omkar Pethkar, lead actors Uday Singh and Tanushka Sharma, along with actors Sandeep Yadav and Pradeep Sarang. The team also included editor Rahul Rajput and coordinator Niriksha Kansara, who joined the unveiling on stage.
The opening ceremony beautifully blended tradition, thought, and artistic expression, setting a fitting tone for the festival’s upcoming sessions and performances.
