Ahmedabad: The Gujarat State Basketball Association has officially announced that it will host the prestigious FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers 2026. This marks the very first time an international basketball tournament of this scale is being organized in the state of Gujarat. The highly anticipated event will take place at the state-of-the-art Veer Savarkar Indoor Stadium in Ahmedabad. Basketball enthusiasts will have the opportunity to witness two thrilling international encounters featuring the Indian National Basketball Team. The first match will see India take on Qatar on July 2, 2026, at 6:00 PM, followed by a high-stakes clash between India and Lebanon on July 5, 2026, at 8:30 PM. This tournament comes immediately after the successful hosting of an international volleyball championship at the same venue, showcasing Gujarat’s growing capability to organize world-class sporting events back-to-back. It reflects the state’s deep commitment to developing sports infrastructure, athlete talent, and international sporting excellence.

Mr. Shakti Singh Gohil, President of the Gujarat State Basketball Association, expressed immense pride regarding the event, stating that hosting the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers for the first time is a historic milestone for the state.
