So, whether you enjoy folklore-inspired scares of Jhamkudi to the psychological darkness of Vash, the haunted-apartment horror of Bhoot and the spooky comedy of Faati Ne?, these four picks bring different flavours of fear and entertainment to your Halloween plans.
1. Jhamkudi: When Viraj Ghelani’s Comedy Meets a Witch’s Curse!
What happens when a village haunted by an evil witch meets a man who can turn even the most awkward situations into comedy? Jhamkudi brings together supernatural mystery, Gujarati folklore and plenty of laughs. Set in Raniwada, where an age-old curse threatens to disrupt Navratri celebrations, the film follows Bablo and Kumud as they confront the terrifying witch Jhamkudi. With Manasi Parekh leading the story and Viraj Ghelani bringing his signature comic energy, the film offers a fun mix of spooky situations and entertaining character moments. National Award-winning actress Manasi Parekh headlines the film as the lead female character, adding serious star power and acting credibility to the spooky fun.
Why watch it? Viraj Ghelani’s comic timing is a major draw, making the film an enjoyable pick for those who want their Halloween scares balanced with laughter. Add a mysterious village, a creepy witch and a distinctly Gujarati flavour, and you have a horror-comedy that keeps things entertaining.
2. Vash: When Black Magic Turns into a Nightmare
Some horror stories frighten you with what you see. Others leave you unsettled because you can’t explain what is happening. Vash leans into the latter, exploring the dark and disturbing world of black magic and supernatural control. Directed by Krishnadev Yagnik, the Gujarati psychological horror thriller builds tension around sinister forces that threaten an ordinary family. As the story unfolds, the line between safety and terror begins to blur. With its unsettling premise and intense atmosphere, Vash is a compelling pick for viewers who prefer psychological tension and supernatural horror over conventional jump scares.
Why watch it? For its dark atmosphere, unsettling supernatural premise and the kind of suspense that stays with you long after the credits roll.
3. Bhoot: When the Walls of Your Home Hide Something Sinister
Your home is supposed to be your safest place. But what if something inside it refuses to let you live in peace? Ram Gopal Varma’s Bhoot (2003) turns an ordinary apartment into a nightmare when a couple begins experiencing terrifying supernatural events. Featuring Ajay Devgn, Urmila Matondkar and Nana Patekar, the film relies on an eerie setting, mounting tension and unsettling performances to create a sense of fear that feels surprisingly close to reality.
Why watch it? Urmila Matondkar’s powerful performance is the film’s standout, particularly as her character’s behaviour becomes increasingly disturbing. Combined with the confined apartment setting, suspenseful sound design and Ram Gopal Varma’s atmospheric direction, Bhoot proves that sometimes the scariest place is the one you call home.
4. Faati Ne? Two Cops, One Haunted Mansion and Plenty of Chaos!
Who says a ghost story can’t make you laugh out loud? Faati Ne? follows two Gujarati police officers, Paramlal and Padamlal, who find themselves spending a terrifying night in a supposedly haunted mansion. What begins as a chance to prove that the supernatural is nothing more than a myth soon turns into a series of eerie encounters, unexpected scares and comic misadventures. Starring Hitu Kanodia and Smit Pandya, the film blends Gujarati humour with paranormal suspense.
Why watch it? The hilarious contrast between the cops’ predicament and the mansion’s terrifying secrets makes this a fun horror-comedy pick. The chemistry between the lead actors, the balance of laugh-out-loud moments and jump scares, and the film’s immersive sound design make it ideal for a Halloween movie night with friends.
