Ahmedabad, May, 2026: Apollo Hospitals International Ltd., Ahmedabad launched its Advanced PET-CT Scan facility under the Department of Nuclear Medicine, further strengthening its capabilities in advanced diagnostic imaging and early disease detection across multiple specialties. The facility was inaugurated in the presence of Dr. Madhu Sasidhar, President & CEO, Hospitals Division, Apollo Hospitals, along with the senior leadership team of the hospital.
The introduction of PET-CT (Positron Emission Tomography–Computed Tomography) marks a significant advancement in diagnostic imaging, as it enables metabolic imaging in addition to anatomical assessment. This allows clinicians to detect abnormalities at a much earlier stage compared to conventional imaging modalities such as CT or MRI. The technology plays a crucial role in the diagnosis, staging, and monitoring of Oncology and other specialties, thereby improving overall clinical outcomes.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rajeev Kumar, Senior Consultant – Nuclear Medicine & PET-CT at Apollo Hospitals International Ltd. said, “With the introduction of this advanced PET-CT system, we will be able to diagnose diseases at a much earlier stage and evaluate the spread of disease with far greater accuracy. This will enable us to tailor treatment plans more precisely, monitor how patients are responding to therapy, and intervene at the right time to improve outcomes. The faster scan times and lower radiation exposure will also make the entire process safer and more comfortable for patients. From a clinical standpoint, this addition significantly strengthens our diagnostic capabilities at Apollo Hospitals International Ltd., Ahmedabad, allowing us to deliver more timely, evidence-based, and personalized care. It also enhances our ability to manage a higher volume of patients efficiently, ensuring that more individuals can access advanced diagnostics without delays.”
The newly installed Discovery IQ Gen 2 (3-ring PET-CT system) brings enhanced diagnostic precision and efficiency to the hospital. The system offers higher sensitivity and improved image clarity, enabling more accurate diagnosis, while reduced scan time ensures greater patient comfort and improved throughput. Additionally, the technology is designed to deliver lower radiation exposure, making it safer for patients. Its expanded field of view allows imaging for a wider range of patients, and the capability to conduct whole-body scans in a single session further enhances diagnostic efficiency and convenience.
The system can perform up to 15-20 scans per day, significantly improving access to timely diagnostics and reducing waiting periods for patients. This enhanced capacity will help meet the growing demand for advanced diagnostic screening and evaluation in the region.
