- Tell us about your background…
Dhruv Mehta – I worked continuously in sales-marketing at the age of 16. From corporate sales to door-to-door marketing, it has taken a lot of hard work and struggle to get ahead in life.
- So how did you come directly from marketing to the film world?
Dhruv Mehta – I was interested in the film world right from the beginning. During my college days I used to participate in plays, youth festivals etc. In such a situation I had to go to Singapore and studied film production and management course after returning from there. And by God’s grace, I got the first movie “Thai Jashe ! ”
- How was your experience with the first film?
Dhruv Mehta – My first film was “Thai Jashe”. A wonderful film with the memorable journey. This film was equally memorable for me. Learned a lot, saw a lot.
- As a producer, what would you say about the current situation of the Gujarati film industry?
Dhruv Mehta – Everyone is trying to give good films, but at the same time it is very difficult for any filmmaker to venture beyond one budget. There are 2 types of audience in Gujarat: Urban and Rural. Nowadays, rural audience cannot be reached due to lack of marketing budget, time, means of reaching there and lack of cinemas. In more depth, effective marketing is most important for any product.
- Movies you like?
Dhruv Mehta – If I talk about Gujarati films, Be Yaar, Thai Jashe and the list is so long. Many movies of Priyadarshan with Rajkumar Hiraniji in Hindi, besides English, Korean, South … the list is so long. Hahaha
- As a producer what kind of films do you prefer to do and what is your vision for films?
Dhruv Mehta – I like doing content oriented films the most, the script being the most important. Then, the director, the actors play a very big part. All I believe is to make more commercial films
- Future plans after “Char Fera Nu Chakdol”?
Dhruv Mehta- This is the everlasting journey. In coming days, I am working on many projects. I always welcome new scripts. It is important to make money for any producer.
