Conferring the Life Time Achievement Award by CIAP to our Beloved, Respected teacher, Dr. (Mrs.) Avalokita B. Desai is the moment of pride not only to her & her family, but all of us, her students of successive generations.
Very rightly expressed by Dr. Hasmukh D. Shah, She herself is an institution. I will take it further, she herself is an institution & she founded & nurtured many institutions. What all of us are enjoying today, AOP Ahmedabad, IAP GSB, NNF, academics, discipline, one family like organisation, all are her creations.
My senior colleagues may be knowing about her, but for the sake of information to younger generations, let me take the liberty to mention her few outstanding achievements.
– Passed her MBBS in 1952 from Grant Medical College, Mumbai
– MD ( Pediatrics) in 1956 with Gold Medal.
She also did DCH.
She was fortunate to have Dr. P. M. Udani, father of Pediatrics in India, as her teacher.
– Joined BJMC in 1964, when department of pediatric was in infancy.
– Organised 5th National Conference of IAP in 1968 with 400 delegates.
– Founded IAP Ahmedabad in 1969
– Founded IAP GSB in 1974
– Vice President CIAP in1979
– Established NICU in BJMC in 1979, was considered as one of the best in India.
– Awarded Hari Om Ashram award in 1977
– Awarded B C Roy award in 1984
– Uncontested President of IAP in 1987
Many more achievements are there on Madam’s name.
Establishment of Department of Pediatrics as one of the best in country, known for academics, CMEs, PG teaching program, round in details of every patient, from 9 to 2, proper documentation, CPC, WHO training centre etc. was glorious.
I have seen very few teachers like her across the country. She was dedicated, devoted, very punctual, meticulous teacher. I think teaching pediatrics & child health were her missions. She aptly fulfilled it.
Madam, many of us are trying to follow your footsteps, although its difficult for us.
Madam, you achieved your most successful life. Conferring this award is just for our satisfaction.
Madam, we pray God for your long healthy life. We consider ourselves most fortunate to get continuous shower of your blessings.
