Gandhinagar, March 2023 : Gandhinagar Civil Cochlear Implant Center organized a special cultural program on the occasion of World Hearing Day at Civil Hospital in Gandhinagar. As part of this program, the book “Hearing Tales” was launched by the Chief Minister of Gujarat Mr. Bhupendrabhai Patel at Swaminarayan Sankul at 10-00 am. On this occasion, he met the children and interacted with them. Dr. Neeraj Suri (Dr. Neeraj Suri, (Gandhinagar Civil ENT Surgeon, – Child Cochlear Implant Surgeon) were also present at that times discussed about and hearing disability.
The “Suroon Ni Sargam” of the little hearing impaired children touched our hearts in the program which was held throughout the day at the Gandhinagar Civil Auditorium. Mr. Rishikesh Patel (Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Gujarat) and Dr. Neeraj Suri (ENT Specialist Doctor-Child Cochlear Implant Surgeon – Civil Hospital) were present to encourage the children on this occasion.
More than 50 children performed in this program at Gandhinagar Civil Auditorium to showcase their talent to the world, through which each child gave a full introduction to their hearing power. Apart from this, drawing competition, art exhibition, musical performance, stick performance, singing performance etc. were also organized for children. In which “Best Drawing in Exhibition Award” and “Drawing Competition Award” were also given. Children who attended the program were awarded certificates and prizes by Mr. Rishikesh Patel (Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Gujarat).
Talking about the program Dr. Neeraj Suri (Ent Specialist Doctor – Child Cochlear Implant Surgeon, Civil Hospital Gandhinagar) said that, the number of people living with unaddressed hearing loss and ear diseases needs timely intervention. Timely action is needed to prevent and address hearing loss across the life course. Hearing loss is the second most common handicap In India. Majority of it is treatable if done at the right time. Those children who are unable to hear from birth are not able to speak too. 4 out of every 1000 children who are born have severe hearing loss, which require advanced surgery called cochlear implantation.
She also added that, Good hearing and communication are important at all stages of life. Hearing loss (and related ear diseases) can be avoided through preventative actions such as: protection against loud sounds; good ear care practices and immunization. Hearing loss (and related ear diseases) can be addressed when it is identified in a timely manner and appropriate care sought.
